Family Employment and Support Services is responsible for administering Ohio works First (OWF), Disability Assistance, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and Medical Assistance programs. Through these programs, Lorain County residents who request help and meet specific eligibility criteria can receive cash assistance, medical coverage, and nutritional assistance through subsidies from local, state, and federal agencies. Food Stamp and Medicaid provide supportive services to assist low-income working families to maintain self-sufficiency. OWF recipients, limited to a maximum three year lifetime assistance, participate in work activities for 30-35 hours per week until employment and self sufficiency are obtained.
