Adult Protective Services

LCDJFS is mandated by state law to receive and investigate all reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of individuals 60 years of age and older.  Social service workers assess all such complaints, and if necessary, arrange or provide a wide variety of services to reduce or eliminate the endangerment of these at-risk adults.  Emergencies are investigated within 24 hours, and all other reports within three working days.  In 2007, the unit investigated 336 reports and maintained an average of 85 ongoing clients each month.

Anyone wishing to make a report should call the Adult Protective Services direct line at (440) 284-4465 (If call unanswered, please leave a message on the voice mail).   Many referrals are made by area hospitals, home health agencies, families, friends, and neighbors.  Reports may also be made anonymously.  In case of emergency, police, fire, and hospitals also have a pager number to reach us during non-working hours.
