LCDJFS also funds many other social services in Lorain County in order to better serve our clientele. These include child care services and protective services for adults.
In 2007, the agency contracted with 75 day care centers. The vast majority of these are located in Lorain County with a few also located in surrounding counties such as Cuyahoga and Erie Counties. This affords parents a variety of day care centers from which to choose. All centers are required to be licensed by the state of Ohio.
Shelter services for homeless individuals and families are funded through the Haven Center located in Lorain under the auspices of Neighborhood House Association. Shelter services are also funded to Lorain County Safe Harbor (Genesis House), our local domestic violence program. Services at both shelters may include crisis intervention, counseling, meals, and transportation. Services are provided at no cost, without regard to the individual's or family's income because of their at-risk status.
Two other funded services serve a primarily elder population. Guardianship services are provided to individuals who need someone to act on their behalf. Individuals are generally indigent, incompetent, and residing in a long term care facility. The Volunteer Guardianship Program of Lorain County is funded for this.
Homemaker and home health aide services through Cambridge Home Health Care are funded to assist those adult protective services clients who have been determined to be in danger or at risk. Services may include light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, meal preparation and personal care.
