Joining Forces

What is Joining Forces?

  • A collaborative program between LCJFS and Lorain County JVS working with the students
  • A social worker is assigned to work with students who exhibit developmental, behavioral, or academic problems that interfere with successful school performance
  • The program focuses on 9th and 10th graders enrolled in the Career Connections Program

What issues does the Joining Forces Social Worker address with JVS students?

Services vary depending on the needs of the student.  These are only some of the issues the social worker assisted the students with during the 2013-14 school year:

  • Anger management
  • Crisis intervention
  • Domestic violence
  • Family abuse and other family issues
  • Homeless issues
  • Mediation
  • Mental health issues
  • Peer relationship skills, conflict resolution
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Suicide prevention

In addition, the Joining Forces Social Worker arranges for presenters to speak to the students about various social issues.  Some of the presenters scheduled for the 2015-16 school year are from: 

  • Dope for Dopes Program from Graftion Correctional Institute
  • Human Trafficking Task Force
  • Lorain County AIDS Task Force

  • Lorain County Health Department
  • Lorain County Historical Society
  • LCADA
